As a forestry scholar, I feel a strong connection to trees. I respect the environment and understand how it influences trees and the wood they produce. I truly appreciate the specific set of characteristics each tree has and how every piece of wood they produce is completely unique. I let attributes such as the grain, beauty, strength, and density of the wood I select determine the piece of furniture it will become. It is this knowledge that makes every piece of furniture we build as unique as the hand-selected wood used to create it.

Furniture by Design began during a cold New England winter in a small shop located in Windham Maine. During these humble beginnings, I spent countless hours perfecting traditional building techniques using basic hand tools. This intimate relationship between craftsman and craft provided an attention to detail that is second to none. As the demand for our high-end furniture grew, so did we. Before long, we outgrew our small shop in Windham, Maine and moved to our present location in Charlottesville, Virginia.
